Issue # 2 The world is on fire, but we are still buying shoes...
Renoon's re-thoughts from you and us
Hey you,
This is Iris, with the lovely help from Elena, and we are pretty excited to be back for the second with the second issue of this newsletter, made especially for you guys in the circle of advocates!
It’s great to have this small and strong space to share all the things that we have been building ourselves, and especially all the exciting projects that we find from you.
From our side
For issue #2, we have two - bold - news…
For starters, the title of this issue was inspired - a.k.a. taken - from Alec Leach’s debut book. Somebody once said: “if you have nothing, take it from someone who has something smarter to say”. That’s still Alec reminding us during this month’s call. Yes, so yesterday we hosted a small group chat with Alec, founder of Future Dust, and Rune Orloff, founder of POOL Berlin!
We got to see some familiar, and not-so-familiar faces during this chat while exploring overconsumption.
Fashion as we know it keeps on growing every day, followed by a large amount of placed orders for new items - Shein has reached a company value of $100 Billion! So we feel the need to get together and build something different.
All the questions & quotes from the call will be live on Renoon to read in a couple of hours. In the meantime you can grab Alec’s book:
We are definitely going to continue to involve inspiring people to join our community calls - we don’t mind if you hit reply with a suggestion. We are also going to open it up to people outside of Renoon, giving more the chance to join this amazing community, so definitely stay in the look out for the next event’s RSVP since they might be a bit limited!
Next on the menu, we have a highly-requested, new side dish chez Renoon: the men’s section! The official launch date is somewhere in May - TBD.
We plan to take the number of responsible brands offering menswear as high as womenswear, so we hope this helps any friend of yours that wants to make a change in their wardrobe…
For dessert, we have a new verified profile that some of you might already know: The Fashion for Good Museum…
It is the very first global museum entirely focused on sustainable fashion, and we look forward to seeing which brands they will keep on adding to their profile on the app!
So for all the Amsterdam-based advocates (and for the ones that are planning on visiting), keep an eye out for some cool events we might do with them.
From your side
We have fun plans for all the people that are going to be in Amsterdam on April 19th: Dio will be part of the Ever-Evolving Talks by Calik Denim, to discuss with exciting speakers what will shape the future of denim and the fashion world.
You can find more information about it on the IG post above!
We also loved seeing Sioejeng’s new mural at the IQMF Supernova Cinema in Amsterdam – an annual film festival on sexual diversity in queer and migrant communities expressed through film and art!
As you know, we have the LGBTQ+ filter on the app and we are always looking to expand the number of brands that we have that support this value, so if you have any in mind let us know…
That’s it for today, you guys. The upcoming months are going to be pretty full…news, and in-person events (yes, we dropped the bomb), but we’ll let you know more about this when things are cooked!
Can’t wait to see what you guys are gonna do this month.
Iris & Ele
